University of Naples Federico II (UNINA) was established in 1224 and it was the first publicly funded University in Europe. Nowadays, UNINA offers lots of courses for each academic field. Research facilities provide a valuable support to all these courses. Current enrolled students are 84.888, academic personnel amounts to 6000 units and members of technical and administrative staff are about 8.000 units.
UNINA is made up of 26 Departments grouped in 4 Schools. The Department which focuses on management and entrepreneurship topics offers 5 training paths (2 first cycle, 2 second cycle, 1 third cycle). UNINA is affiliated with Campania New Steel incubator. UNINA signed a scientific and technological cooperation agreement with Apple for creating the Apple Developer Academy, a school for young graduates teaching them how to become “developers” of innovative apps. Through the Apple Developer Academy UNINA provides young talents the opportunity to learn how to design, implement and commercialize innovative services on Apple technological platforms while creating and managing start-ups. UNINA has also an agreement with Deloitte Consulting for establishing the DIGITA Academy – Digital Transformation and Industry Innovation Academy, aiming to provide young talents with the necessary skills to fill the gap of cooperation between companies and Digital and Industry 4.0 ecosystem.
UNINA supports lots of initiatives, such as underpinning ITATECH platform, cooperating with Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) and European Investment Fund (EIF, of the Group EIB), to strengthen its guidance role in funnelling national innovation and growth of educational system. ITATECH is an equity investment instrument dedicated to financing the process of ICT-based knowledge transfer with the main Italian Universities. Through ITATECH UNINA favours, supports, catalyses and accelerates the commercialization of intellectual capital with high technological content and, more generally, the translation of research results into new business ideas. UNINA’s collaboration agreements recently stipulated with ITATECH, Panakes Partners SGR S.p.A. (company) and Vertis SGR SpA (company) favouring the selection, enhancing and sharing of innovative projects in medical, pharmaceutical and veterinary field and in robotics, mechatronics and automation sectors.
In 2017 UNINA won the Class Central prize for the best online courses thanks to the creation of a web-learning portal called FEDERICA (it was built with European structural funds). UNINA’s leading professors collaborated for developing English online courses (MOOCs) on FEDERICA platform, thus contributing to develop the biggest international knowledge community via the global Harvard & MIT platform, edX.
